MUSE demonstrator on display at BB Europe 2005 in Bordeaux (December 12-14)
The demonstrated access and edge network is operated in an IP aware bridging
model, as defined in the architecture studies of MUSE. The set-up includes an IP
DSLAM, a next generation packet-to-packet gateway, and a residential gateway
suited for TriplePlay. A TCP accelerator and Time Shifted TV proxy are
integrated in the access node to illustrate how higher layer service awareness
can provide added value to the end users and the providers.
MUSE was also well represented with 12 oral papers in the conference

Successful integrated lab trial of advanced optical access technologies
Low cost CWDM technology is used to integrate analogue signals of DSL over
optics and radio over optics, as well as high speed digital baseband signals on
a single fibre infrastructure. The ring architecture allows for feeding cabinets
with different drop technologies, as well as fibre to the premises.
Multiservice and Multiprovider capable Ethernet Access platform connected to
Swedish National Testbed
The platform implements the service connection concept developed in MUSE. The
solution has good scalability and will enable a multitude of services to be
delivered to several hundred thousand users attached to multiple edges. The
architecture supports the new business model developed in MUSE including the new
entities: the packager and the connectivity provider.
9th MUSE consortium meeting
More than 100 attendees are expected at the 9th Consortium Meeting hosted by
Portugal Telecom Inovação in Aveiro in January. The discussions will also
include the kick-off of Phase II activities, which were recently granted
by the European Commission.

"Network Architecture and Functional Specification for the Multi-Service
Access and Edge"
Network architecture solutions and specifications for multi-service,
multi-provider packet-based access and aggregation networks. The deliverable
describes generic aspects for such networks (business roles, QoS,
authentication, multicasting), compares specific network models (at layer-2 and
layer-3), introduces nomadism considerations, and introduces a distribution of
services enablers.
"Techno-economics for fixed access network
evolution scenarios"
Techno-economic evaluation of Ethernet and IP forwarding access architecture
compared to ATM based architecture. Business case evaluation of FTTCab and FTTH
scenarios.
"Detailed description of Residential Gateway and advanced features"
Reference model with a description of basic functionality of the Residential
Gateway looking at data plane, control plane and management plane, including
protocols, parameters, functions, and interaction.

Access Platforms, First Miles Solutions, and Lab Trials.
